Out & About

The village of Llanfairfechan is a small friendly Victorian seaside resort with stunning views out to sea overlooking the Menai Straits, The Great Orme and isle of Anglesey. With local cycle paths, bird watching and nature walks within a stones throw away, Y Gelli offers the perfect base to get away from it all, simply sit back and relax or take part in more strenuous leisure activities.

For families:

Llanfairfechan offers several miles of wonderful beaches to explore, so pack your swimming trunks and bucket & spade. The front has a large paved promenade with two excellent cafés where you can get everything from ice cream to a full sit down meal. There are two children’s playgrounds, one with a paddling pool, and the other with a large skateboard park. There are also tennis courts, a bowling green and a croquet club on the beach front, ideal for those looking for more energetic activities to pass the time.

There are several pubs, cafés (take away and eat in) and a restaurant in the village. For those who prefer to self-cater, there are two grocery shops (Spar and Co-Op) to buy your provisions from, therefore no need to stock up before you travel! There is also a bank (HSBC) with cash point, a library and Post Office.

For outdoors types:

Llanfairfechan is an excellent centre for those who enjoy walking, with walks to suit all ages and abilities. For golfers, there is a nine-hole course and a clubhouse to welcome visitors to the village, with other larger golf clubs such as Bangor, Conwy and Caernarfon nearby. Add to these activities water sports, fishing, horse riding and nature reserves (Llanfairfechan is excellent for bird-watching), and there is something for everyone.

For culture-vultures:

North Wales is steeped in history and culture and Llanfairfechan is ideally placed to visit many interesting places. We are central to an area which includes many castles - the World Heritage sites of Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Conwy Castles, plus Dolbadarn & Dolwyddelan, all of which can be reached within half an hour.

Add to this the attractions of Penrhyn Castle, Plas Newydd and Bodnant Gardens, plus Gwydir Castle , Bangor’s beautiful cathedral and other attractions, then Llanfairfechan is an ideal base to visit the many historical sites that the area has to offer.

There is a multi-screen cinemas in nearby Llandudno Junction, and a excellent theatre in Llandudno with regular shows on offer. Shoppers can explore the large nearby shopping centers of Bangor and Llandudno. The nearest leisure centre is at Llandudno Junction, while Bangor has a large swimming pool.
